I’m a vegetarian because the taste of meat is disgusting. I really don’t care about animals. But seriously, the animal is already dead, so how vegetarians save it’s life? Do they break in to the pasture and steal animals away at night?

I guess you never heard of supply and demand or the “if your friends jumped off a bridge” scenario. Plus, even if others eat meat that doesn’t make me want to also have any blood on my hands.

Project Re-Engineered Discharge (RED), a discharge-planning program developed by Boston University that helped cut re-admissions at Boston University Medical Center by 30% in a 2008 study, is getting rolled out at a number of hospitals with the help of the U.S. government. At the heart of the program is a virtual nurse named Louise which is an animated character on a computer screen that explains to the patient what they need to do after they are released from the hospital. Louise then sends patients home with a package of medication and she follows up with real-life case managers and nurses who monitor patients via phone. The move is part of a move to reduce the 4.4 million hospital stays each year that are preventable and cost our nation more than billion, or about 10% of all dollars spent on hospital care, according to the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. In April, Medicare announced it would provide 0 million in annual grants for organizations that work with hospitals to reduce admissions. One in 20 elderly hospital patients are readmitted within a month of discharge. This is attributed to poorly communicated instructions, which some believe is due to rushed staff members handing a printout or pamphlet to the patient at discharge. “I got more instructions on how to take care of a goldfish I took home from the pet store as a kid than we give some people we send home from the hospital, Victor Caraballo, Senior Medical Director of Independence Blue Cross told the Wall Street Journal June 7 in a story entitled, “Don’t Come Back, Hospitals Say.” At Family inHome Caregiving, unfortunately, we repeatedly see our Clients go into the hospital and it is true that many are readmitted soon after. One of the problems our Clients face which I believe would be hindered by the RED program is there seems to be disorganization regarding the time of discharge. Family members and companies like mine, which provide private duty caregivers so the senior can remain at home, are often unsure of when the person will be released. The elderly also have vision problems and some have concentration problems so if a family member or caregiver isn’t there to get the instructions from Louise, it could cause big problems. Due to this firsthand experience with the disorganized discharge process, I’m not optimistic that everyone can be on hand at the same time that needs to get the virtual discharge instructions, although I do like some of the other aspects of Project RED. These include a real nurse who is a “discharge advocate” assigned to educate the patient about their diagnosis, arrange follow-up appointments and confirm medication plans. This includes giving not just the patient, but their Doctor, a copy of a detailed discharge instruction plans. They also ask the patient to read back the instructions in their own words to make sure everything is understood. Two days later, the nurse calls to identify and resolve any problems.

I just got a six month old kitty from the Humane Society. My two other cats, both 1 year old, won’t stop eating his kitten food. The food that they are supposed to eat, is the same size as the kitten food and it was perfectly fine for them to eat before. I’ve even put the kitten’s food in another room, and they still go in there and eat it. And Now, the Kitten has been eating their food! When I catch them in the act, I say no, pick them up and carry them to the appropriate food. Is there anything else I should be doing to stop this?

You may want to think about feeding the 2 older ones at a different time then the little one, until they get the hang of things. Put the older ones into a bedroom or something, or sit with the kitten while it eats, then vice-versa. I’m sure it will all work out in due time!

As long as you can trace the lineage to your country and that it’s been documented, there should be no problem.
I am in love with the wirehaired german pointer who has been mixed up so much in the the USA. Read about them, they are the most loving, calm and yet true to their hunting/pointing abilities, they are my favorite breed.
Many of the lines have been mixed in the US so this is a breed I would be more apt to go to the country of origin to purchase.
