How to Train a Kitten Quickly
I often get asked by friends how to train a kitten quickly from my personal experience. Though training a kitten requires patience, there are some situations where training a cat slowly just isn’t an option. As someone who has adopted kittens shortly before bringing a new baby home, I know how important it is to get a kitten litter box trained immediately.
Unfortunately, the average cat is extremely stubborn and will not react well to any type of forceful training. If you are someone who needs to learn how to train a kitten quickly without causing the kitty any unnecessary stress, hopefully my advice will help you.
Stick to Small Spaces
Keeping your new feline in its own small space will make things easier for you and for her. Place your kitty in a room of their own with a litter-box for the first few weeks of their life. Not having to worry about your kitten becoming lost in your home, or having to fear stumbling across a cat accident in a bad place, will make training a kitten less stressful for you.
Plus, keeping your new kitten in their own small space will help them grow accustomed to their new home. Kittens will grow nervous if they are forced to find their way around a large, new, space too soon; so keeping them safe in a small space is the best option for everyone. The next strategy is very effective when learning how to train a kitten.
Reward Them Constantly
Kittens respond well to lavish praise and frequent treats. Though many animal trainers warn against spoiling a new kitten, when you need to litter train a kitten quickly you may need to take the risk. Offering your kitten a variety of treats for successfully using the litter box will motivate them to use the box regularly.
Kittens love surprises and new things, so switch up the treats on a regular basis to keep them interested. A kitten who is always receiving rewards and praise for using the litter box will become fully trained faster than a kitten who is always afraid of punishment.
Use Multiple Litter Boxes
If you own more than one kitten, you should also own more than one box. Many cat owners stick to one litter-box for two cats because they don’t want to clean two litter boxes. Unfortunately, this makes things more difficult for everyone. With two kittens using one box, they are more likely to dirty it quickly.
Once a litter box becomes dirty, your kittens are not going to want to use it. Getting two litter boxes will avoid a situation where one box is extremely dirty, and will make the kitten feel more comfortable using the litter-box since they won’t fear encountering the filth of another kitten.
It is most important to know that most common kitten training mistakes occur without the owner even knowing they are doing something wrong. While there’s a lot to learn to toilet train a kitten, if you’re willing to put some effort into learning training kittens and how to potty train a cat then I’m willing to let you in on my experience.
About 2 years ago an “on faith” purchase of a resource on how to train a kitten saved my family’s cat from going back to the pet shop and as such I am now using my blog as a way to review the products and care guides that I found most helpful. Is a Cat or Kitten the Right Pet for Your Child?
Kittens are adorable, soft, and sweet or so they seem. Most children will wish for one of their own pretty kitties but many kids also have the false assumption that kittens and cats will lay quiet when pulled, pushed, and dressed up for tea like the good picture books portray. Is a cat or kitten the right pet for your child? Let’s take a look at what makes cats so special.
Kittens and cats can be frisky and unpredictable. That doesn’t make them a poor choice for a child’s pet but it is a characteristic that may be overlooked when choosing a pet. Kittens and cats also have sharp teeth and nails that can slice like a razor if not trimmed or removed. That adorable, soft, and sweet kitten or cat can get easily spooked while on your lap and take a flying leap using your thighs as a spring-board. The result can be scratches right through your clothing. Kittens also think everything is a play thing. So when a child makes quick movements to pet the kitten or cat, they may be in for a surprise attack from soft paws hiding those sharp claws.
Kittens and cats are also instinctively hunters. Animals that hunt have sharp teeth to help catch prey…alias mice. If you don’t believe this, watch a kitten or cat with catnip filled felt shaped mouse toys and watch the antics of hunt and kill. This also doesn’t make a kitten or cat a bad choice but knowing the characteristics of these animals help you to make an educated choice for your child.
Kittens and cats are some of the least expensive animals to have as pets. Their food comes in dry form or canned, they need fresh water, and they need a clean kitty pan with cat litter. They are independent and require little maintenance. If they have the above items, you can leave them overnight or a day or two and they will survive fine. Most cats don’t have anxiety when the owners leave like dogs or puppies. This a great point in their favor.
Think about the age of your child and how well he or she understands instructions about being gentle with the cat or kitten and being safe. Consider how much the vet bills might be for neutering or spaying, shots, and worming. Cats can live indoors without the need for a yard and they survive nicely in small living quarters. Keeping in mind that cats and kittens can be sneaky, frisky, timid, bold, and very independent they can make a wonderful pet for your child. Along with those other characteristics kittens and cats can also be sweet, loving, cuddly, and devoted. Just watch out for those unpredictable hair balls, (or did I forget to mention that.)

Basics of Newborn Kitten Food and Nutrition
Even kittens are adorable and cute to handle, they are delicate and they have different needs compared to adult cats. Kittens require careful feeding and attention because they are still babies and they still need the care and attention of their mother cat.
If you have little kittens at home, you need to exercise extra care and caution with regards to feeding. However, there are instances wherein kittens need special nutrition and food, especially when their mother is sick. When such case arises, it is suggested to bring the cat to the veterinarian to ask advice from the vet on what suitable food to give the kittens. However, when the mother cat is healthy, the normal period of gestation is four weeks. After four weeks, kittens need alternative source of nutrition to sustain them and this is the time that you provide them nutritious meals. To avoid flaws in choosing which food to give to kittens, you can always ask suggestions from your vet.
Since kittens tend to grow quickly, they need adequate amounts of energy and nutrients to maintain and to keep abreast with its growth. Below are suggestions on how to ensure the health your kittens:
In the first four weeks of kittens’ life, the primary source of their nutrition and food is their mother’s milk, thus you should provide the mother cat quality, healthy and nutritious food.If the kittens are orphaned or the mother cat is not around, you should consult the veterinarian for suggested feeding and product recommendations.
During the fourth week of gestation, it is best to give them large and balanced amounts of food high in nutrients and energy to support their rapid growth. Be sure that the food you give to kittens for specially formulated for their needs. Bear in mind that in this stage of growth, kittens need approximately two to three times the amount of energy than that of an adult cat and 30% of their energy should be derived from protein. It is best to give kittens kitten-formula meals until they reach maturity, which is about one years old.
When kittens reach fix to six weeks old, they should be given high quality and dry nibble foods apart from the milk they get from their mother. By doing so, you are introducing and training them to eat or they are about to be weaned.
By the time they reached eight weeks old, it is the right time to wean kittens. It is the stage where 80% of their total nutrients intake comes from kitten food.
If your kittens are already orphaned, then you can hand-fed them with moistened food for kittens. You can also use commercial milk as meal replacement. Be sure to reduce the amount of milk given to them once they reach their weaning age, which is about five to six weeks old.
Be sure to read food labels to ensure that the cat food you buy contains high grade, quality and nutritious foods.
By following the suggestions and tips mentioned beforehand, you can have healthy, playful and active kittens at home.

Cropped this one in from a photo shoot with three kittens. This one is SO nice, as they all are. Wish I could keep him.
His eye looks olive, but close up you can see it’s blue and a sort of yellow that are combined to look that way at a normal distance.
The whiskers at the bottom right are from one of the other kittens.

Making Your Home Safe Before You Buy a Kitten
Making Your Home Safe Before You Buy a Kitten
So, you are thinking about bringing a brand new kitten home, are you? While kittens can certainly bring a great deal of joy and love into a household, you also need to be certain to take the steps necessary to keep your little feline friend safe and healthy. Just like a human baby, kittens can easily get themselves into trouble by getting into places they don’t belong. Therefore, before you unleash your new furry bundle of joy upon your house, make sure to take these steps to “kitten proof” your home first.
Furniture
Believe it or not, your furniture can be a significant source of danger for your new kitten. Reclining chairs are particularly dangerous because curious kittens may crawl inside or beneath the chair while it is in the reclined position, resulting in injury when the chair is put back in its normal position. Rocking chairs can also cause harm to your kitten’s foot or tail, so make sure your feline companion isn’t nearby before you start rocking.
Appliances
Kittens are instinctively drawn to warm, cozy places, which is exactly what it will discover once it finds your clothes drier.
If you leave your drier door in, your kitten may cuddle up inside or snuggle up in the back. This may not seem like a problem, but it is potentially fatal if you start the drier back up with your kitty is where it could be damaged.
Refrigerator and freezers also emit a great deal of warmth from the compressors which may appeal to your new furry friend. Be sure to prevent access to these areas.
You should also exercise precaution with ironing boards. Put the ironing board and iron away after you are done with them so your kitten doesn’t accidentally knock the iron down.
Similarly, never leave a hot iron unattended, as this is a certain recipe for disaster.
Toilets
It may seem disgusting to us, but pets often enjoy drinking from the toilet. Your new kitten is no exception. Unfortunately, due to the size of your kitten, it is much easier for it to fall into the toilet and accidentally drown than it is for a full-grown cat or a dog. If you use special cleaning chemicals in your toilet, your kitty is also at risk for getting poisoned if it drinks from the toilet. So, in order to keep your kitty safe, make you’re your family puts the toilet seat down after every use.
Electrical Cords
Kittens have a tendency to play with the objects they find, and your electrical cords are no exception. Of course, if your kitty begins chewing on or clawing at an electrical cord, it could potentially electrocute itself. You can prevent this from happening by concealing all of your electric cords by installing rubber or hard plastic runners over the cords.
Small Items
Just as a human baby likes to put things in his or her mouth, the same is true with kittens. So, make certain all small items are kept off the floor and out of reach of your new kitty. This includes items such as:
? Bells
? Coins
? Dental Floss
? Earrings
? Nails
? Needles
? Paper Clips
? Pins
? Rubber bands
? Screws
? Small Balls
? Staples
? Thread
? Yarn
All of these items can potentially get stuck in your kitty’s digestive tract and lead to serious injury or possibly even death if swallowed.
While a kitten can bring a great deal of joy into your life, it is important to remember that you are also taking on a great responsibility bringing a new kitten into your home. So, be sure to properly prepare your home so you and your new friend can live long and happy lives together.
