What to do about kitten diarrhea? Diarrhea is runny unformed stool, your kitten may be experiencing this unpleasant condition for a number of reasons. Sometimes a kitten will just get diarrhea, – other times it is a sign of a very unwell little kitten.
A kitten with parasites can get diarrhea. Tapeworm and roundworm are two common parasitic worms your kitten may have. Your vet will be able to examine your little kittens stool to learn if this is why your kitten has the runs. A kitten with parasites needs treatment.
Abrupt changes in a kitten routine diet can cause diarrhea. Unlike humans, most cats actually like eating the same food all the time. If you suddenly change Fluffy to something new, her little body can react with the runs. If you want to change the food your feline is eating – do it slowly.
Poisons can cause diarrhea in kittens. Do you have any houseplants Tiddles has been chewing on? Many houseplants are deadly for cats to eat if untreated. Make sure to get your kitty to the vet if your kitten has been into the houseplants or chemical cleaners.
Mild diarrhea in kittens can be treated at home. Be sure to give her plenty of water to make sure your kitten doesn’t get dehydrated. If your kitty doesn’t seem to be recovering from her diarrhea or shows other signs she is unwell – a vet needs to be consulted.
Diarrhea in kitten can be a serious issue. If you are not sure about your kitten – contact your vet. A lot of the times your little kitten has just eaten something that disagrees with her stomach and there is no reason to worry. She will be better in a day or two as long as her fluids are kept up.
